Maverick

He tries to win some, tries to collect a few debts, and recover a little loot for the reward, all with a light hearted air. He joins forces with a woman gambler with a marvelous, though fake, southern accent as the two both try and enter the game. |

A few dog questions needing input.?
Okay, so I adopted a (3-5) month old pit bull mix from the local shelter. They weren’t quite sure how old she was, so I can’t give you an exact age. But she still has her baby teeth, so young. I have two questions regarding the puppy (Sammie).
- She was a stray before she was brought into the human society and was there for over a month before I adopted her. Being a stray she learned that food is scarce and you eat what you can while you have it or starve. She’s sat in that cage eating the food they gave her as much as possible for a month. By the time I got her she weighed in at close to 30 pounds. And now that I have her home she’s applying her eat-everything instincts. The problem is that I have a seven month old German Shepherd who requires a lot of food, and she’s more than happy to eat her food AND his. She’s lost a little weight now that she’s out of the cage and playing, but can you recommend some way to break her of the ‘eat everything’ habit?
- My second issue is small but I’m afraid it might develop if I don’t take care of it while she’s young. This doesn’t apply to her food (yet), she just eats that as fast as she can, but BONES. She WILL NOT share the bones with my older dog. If my older dog gets near her while she’s chewing she’ll growl at him. And will frequently go around the house collecting all the bones she can find on her bed. She won’t growl or bite at me if I take a bone and give it to him, but she WILL retrieve the bone back from him. Her growling isn’t too aggressive, just more of a warning growl. But I’m afraid if she doesn’t learn to ’share’ persay that it’ll develop into real aggression.
How can I break her of this as well?
Any insight would be great, thanks.
Make high pitched noises when she does it.
Jessie | Nov 21, 2009
for the food issue, you should make someone hold her on a leash and feed the other dog first to show her that if she behaves, she’ll get food too. for the growling issue, all dogs growl when they have a bone to warn off other dogs but if you don’t want her to get bones anymore, you should make sure the garbage bin or wherever you put the bones is closed in a secure place.

Talk to a dog trainer.
With all my puppies, I pet them while they are eating or playing with their toys. I also ask them to give me their food or toys, so they won’t be so aggressive and/ or obsessive with them. I then give them back. You can put large rocks (Bigger than your fist) in the food bowel, so the dog won’t eat so fast. You have to separate the dogs when they eat.
I don’t know if these will work, since your dog is older.
Rather B Fishing | Nov 21, 2009
Say "no" in a low growly voice. Make sure you are seen as alpha-dog and insist on obedience. Even playful aggresiveness can become a problem if you let your dogs believe you are okay with it.

Has anyone ever used the Honeysuckle White brand turkey for Thanksgiving?
I apparently bought an unknown brand of fresh turkey and hubby not too happy. He figures I shoulda known this when I went shopping. So what are your opinions on the way YOUR Honeysuckle White turkey turned out…not on hubby’s reaction to me buying it
It is as good as the others, just a different name. I have used several different brands and have good results with them. I also use the Reynolds brand cooking bags in a 325 degree oven, so no matter what brand they always come out moist and juicy. Hubby should not have any reason to complain after it is cooked. Sometimes we get caught up in brand name products, it happens. I hope your Thanksgiving is a peaceful and enjoyable time for you and your family. God Bless.
mommy of she who must be obeyed | Nov 24, 2008
I never knew they made a Honeysuckle turkey, I always have a butter ball. But Honeysuckle sounds good.
Jordan L | Nov 24, 2008
Honeysuckle White brand turkey had been around back in the 50s must be new in your area.
blakelemflyfish | Nov 24, 2008
Yes. Cooked properly (i.e. not overcooked) a Honeysuckle White Brand will be tasty and juicy. Happy eating. Oh by the way, your husband should be a little more appreciative of you and your efforts.
I usually use Butterball, but I have used Honeysuckle white in the past and they had it cheaper ( god knows why) this week when I went shopping. Tell the Hubby, its a good brand. I don’t usually get it because its more expensive
EDIT: What Marc said! Cheers
libbyami | Nov 24, 2008
Have had Honeysuckle several times and it always turned out wonderful. Another benefit of Honeysuckle is it has more white meat.
Judy T | Nov 24, 2008
It’s a great tasting turkey. We have them here in our area. Just roast it like any other kind of turkey. Make an aluminum foil dome over the turkey when baking it and baste it often with butter or olive oil to start off with, then the drippings as it’s cooking. Yum!
2bME | Nov 24, 2008
The ones I have bought were always good.
Fauna | Nov 24, 2008
Sweetie…a turkey is a turkey. It doesn’t care who packaged it. It only cares how it is cooked. The only difference between a Butterball and any other turkey is they stuff pats of butter under the skin before packaging. You can do that yourself and save the money.
I’m a Grandma who has been making Thanksgiving dinner for at least 20+ people for nearly 40 years…I’m #4 of 9 children.
I use the following recipe and people RAVE about it…never any leftovers.. It tastes better then Deli turkey…tender and juicy….I promise. PS..I use whatever turkey is the cheapest per pound…the brand really doesn’t matter…but have used Honeysuckle White many times. In fact, I think that is what I;m using this year.
==================
Brined and Roasted Turkey
Difficulty: Medium
Prep Time: 1 hour
Cook Time: 4 hours
Yield: 8 servings
1 (10 to 12-pound) turkey
Brine:
1 cup salt
1 cup brown sugar
2 oranges, quartered
2 lemons, quartered
6 sprigs thyme
4 sprigs rosemary
To make the brining solution (which is what keeps the turkey juicy and NO…the cooked turkey will not taste like fruit), dissolve the salt and sugar in 2 gallons of cold water in a non-reactive container (such as a clean bucket or large stockpot, or a clean, heavy-duty, plastic garbage bag.) Add the oranges, lemons, thyme, and rosemary.
.
Note: if you have a big turkey and need more brine than this, use 1/2 cup salt and 1/2 cup brown sugar for every gallon of water.
.
Remove the neck, giblets, and liver from the cavity of the turkey and reserve for the gravy. Rinse the turkey inside and out under cold running water.
Soak the turkey in the brine, covered and refrigerated, for at least 4 hours and up to 24 hours.
When I use a larger turkey…I use a new unused white kitchen garbage bag to put the washed turkey and brine in. If the weather is under 40 degrees I then sit the bag in a large tote or ice chest and sit it on my back deck or in an unheated garage. If the temp in either local is a bit warmer …I pack the tote or chest with ice. The turkey MUST be kept under 40 degrees.
After soaking the turkey:
Preheat the oven to 325 degrees F.
Remove the turkey from the brine and rinse well under cold running water.
Pat dry with paper towels, inside and out.
Place breast side down in a large, heavy roasting pan, and rub on all sides with the butter.
Season lightly inside and out with salt and pepper.
Stuff turkey with:
.
4 tablespoons unsalted butter at room temperature
1 large yellow onion, cut into 8ths
1 large orange, cut into 8ths
1 stalk celery, cut into 1-inch pieces
1 large carrot, cut into 1-inch pieces
2 bay leaves
2 sprigs thyme
You will also need:
1 1/2 to 2 cups chicken or turkey stock, for basting
Loosely tie the drumsticks together with kitchen string.
Roast the turkey, uncovered, BREAST SIDE DOWN for 1 hour. This way all the natural juices will collect in the breast.
Remove from the oven, turn, and baste with 1/2 cup stock.
Continue roasting with the breast side UP until an instant-read meat thermometer registers 165 degrees F when inserted into the largest section of thigh (avoiding the bone), about 2 3/4 to 3 hours total cooking time.
Baste the turkey once every hour with 1/2 to 3/4 cup chicken or turkey stock.
Remove from the oven and place on a platter. Tent with aluminum foil and LET REST for 20 minutes before carving. It will continue to cook a bit during this time and the juices will stay in the meat.

Honeysuckle is a good brand of turkey. It should be just fine. I’ve had both butterball and honeysuckle. Both are good and turn out well.
Jackie Blue | Nov 24, 2008
We have used honeysuckle brand many times and have never had any problems. Seems to be running a tight race with butterball. Tell your husband to relax all will be just fine. Good luck!

PS3 Black Friday at Gamestop?
Ok well first question is if there will be a regular bundle for PS3 with games since a few stores including Gamestop have Black Friday deals. After seeing Gamestop of all places also having a deal and BB seemingly having their bundle as a regular thing is 299 REALLY worth it for going out or camping out Black Friday?
I am more leaning towards Gamestop because I REALLY want LBP and gamestop is in walking distance and there are several around, seems a lot easier than dealing with Best Buy or Walmart craziness. How early do people usually camp out at Gamestop for their Black Friday deals? I was gonna go by after Thanksgiving meal and see if anyone is around but if not I was gonna go back around 4. Is that too late too early? I went to Staples a few yrs ago for a camera and hardly anyone was there till the store was just about to open.
How early do they go? We have several gamestops around here but the one I am going to is only a few blocks from my house and a block from where I am spending Thanksgiving.
Guess I will just take a jacket and be prepared to sit for awhile.
People are a little crazy when it comes to Gamestop and camp out very early, way before the store opens. Every time I have tried to get something there, I had to wait the night.
Scott D | Nov 26, 2009
I suppose it depends on where you live. Gamestops are pretty much everywhere these days, so it shouldn’t be too much of a problem. Not worth camping out at all.

Orlando - DivX Version (Normal Quality), iPod/iPhone Version
|
IMDB rating: 7.00 Plot: Orlando, a man of ideal nobility starts his search for love, poetry, a place in society and a meaning in life, in and around the court of historical England in the late 16th century. The blessing of eternal life from Queen Elizabeth I enables him a long and deep philosophical quest, accompanied by the features of “noble” English life with a good taste for irony. Both sides of the coin are shown when Orlando, partly fed up and disgusted with how men think and act, returns from his ambassadorship in the Far East as exactly the same person, let alone his sex. Orlando, a woman of ideal nobility continues her journey to realize the truth about life, love, and approaching one’s own sex in the late 18th century England. For one who lived four hundred years and haven’t aged a day, finding humanity’s forgotten need for androgynity as the key to the happiness of her own as well as her daughter’s. Sally Potter’s adaptation of Virginia Woolf’s Orlando not only tells the story on film with brilliant visual design, but also tries to extend the plot as Woolf would have, had she lived to the end of the twentieth century. |

What do you think about Donny Osmond winning Dancing With the Stars?
I don’t really like it honestly. Mya was by far much better! Kelly Osbourne was a tad better than Donny, too! I believe he won because of fan base. If you disagree, please feel free to say. I want to hear all your opinions.
Thanks!
He sucked. Mya is the real winner! i would have taken Kelly over him.

Yes Donnie should of gotten 2nd. Mya should of won. It’s a popularity contest, cuz people vote who they like not who is the better dancer. And Donnie has a bigger fanbase which is why he won. But its over and done with nothing we can do about it though. Uncategorized | Comment (0)

why are we sending troops overseas when we need them here to protect our home land?
if the soldiers need to have jobs then bring them all home to protect our borders, our water supply, our nuclear facilities, our airports, our inner city schools around the whole nation! There is plenty of work here for our soldiers in the usa not over there, BRING EM HOME protecting our home land is a full time job. besides, think about it. we need them HERE in the states.
You are an idiot.
There are thousands stationed stateside. However, troops do not patrol cities, schools, civilian streets, and the water supply. That is the responsibility of the local government/federal government. Not the DOD. The military does not patrol the US. Plus, you should realize deployments are nothing new. Even in a time of peace, non-combat tour deployments are regular.
You are apparently unaware of what the purpose of the military is for. How old are you? 6?

Spartan | Nov 18, 2009
They are sent overseas to protect justice, freedom, the pursuit of happiness and to kill evil people. The United States of America are the "good" guys, whereas the people we send soldiers to kill are evil. Like the communists and fascists.

because at the present moment our homeland is being attacked by Iraq, hence the war.
Llenlleawg | Nov 18, 2009
Nobody wants to protect our borders. We seem to want to allow anybody in. The Border Guards aren’t allowed to shoot people sneaking in. There’s no punishment. At worst, they’re put back across the border where they can try again tomorrow. The military would be up against the same thing. The criminals sneaking into this country illegally know it.
Because we seem inclined to allow anybody in, there are are about 22 and a half million illegal aliens in this country. Of those about half a million are not from Mexico. Where do you think they came from? Canada? Sure, some came from Europe. But I’ll bet quite a few came from the Middle East… like those sweethearts who brought us 9/11.
And the government is powerless to do anything about them. I’ll bet most of them are being watched. I’ll bet somebody knows of any planned terrorist activity is being planned. But they too are up against it. If they act in time to stop the suspected activity, it’s merely suspicion. The ACLU would take the case and have it thrown out of court because there’s no actual crime. The government would have to pay retribution to the poor, mistreated, visitors to our land… and the government gets trashed for acting prematurely, or overreacting. Of course the terrorists, now better funded (thanks to our legal system), would do whatever it was they were going to do a few weeks or months later than originally planned.
But if the government waits until the act has been committed, they get trashed for not acting more quickly.
It’s either too much too soon, or too little too late. And, if by some strange coincidence it’s the right amount at the right time, it’s orchestrated incorrectly.
The military would be in the same fix.
We do have people protecting our country from the inside. We have the CIA watching for the bad guys trying to plot overseas. We have the FBI watching those in the US. We have Homeland Security watching facilities. We have federal, state, and local law enforcement to back them up.
As for fighting them them half way around the world, think about the all the Iraqi and Afghan non-combatants who have been killed. That’s the price of fighting the enemy in their land. Were they to come home and fight them here, the non-combatants being killed might include you.
In my 25 years in the military, I fought the enemy in jungles, mountains, valleys, cities, and swamps… all of them away from family and friends. And, having been there, I’ll tell you… while the separation from family and friends can be trying, the thought of them being killed by these maggots, or being caught in the crossfire makes the separation a lot more bearable. If you’d ever seen combat, you really wouldn’t want it here.
