Is there anything I can cook with pumpkin guts?

October 31st, 2009  Tagged

I just got done carving pumpkins with my four children. I am frying up the pumpkin seeds. When seperating them for the guts I realized these are some of the fleshiest, guttiest pumpkins I have ever seen! I am wondering if there is anything we can cook with the insides of these pumpkins? It lookes like shreds, but there is a whole big bowl full of that inside stuff. Anyone got a good recipe?

RocketBabyDoll_x | Oct 10, 2009

Typically jack o lantern pumpkins arent great for cooking. Most recipes use the sweet pumpkin or canned pumpkin which is the sweet pumpkin puree. These pumpkins are about the size of cantalopes. if you do choose to use your jack latern pulp, puree it and cook on the stove top till thick to get as much moisture out as possible and taste your batters/soups etc to see if they need extra sugar or spices.
kisseslikepearls | Oct 10, 2009

Don’t forget to toast the seeds, too! Here’s a short list of recipes for "guts" and seeds:

owlcroft | Oct 10, 2009

If you are talking just the stringy stuff that clings to the inside of the pumpkin. There is not much you can do with it. Compost it.
If you are talking about the "flesh" of the pumpkin, that lies between the outer shell and the stringy stuff with the seeds, that you can do a lot with.
You need to cook it down quite a bit. I would roast it first then when it is tender puree it and cook it down more to cook out some of the excess water. If you are going to make pumpkin butter or cook it down for a pie hold off adding spices or seasonings to it once it has cooked down. If you add the seasonings early they will intensify as the water cooks out.
For pumpkin butter just cook it down until it is about the consistency of soft mashed potatoes.

High School GPA insight?

October 31st, 2009  Tagged

So to say the least, I’m frustrated. Im a 1st semester sophomore. So lets start with last year. My good old freshman year. Yeah I didn’t care got a 2.2 my first semester and 3.0 second. This year I have a changed attitude. My goal was a 3.8 to 4.0 and I had that. Then it got a little bit tougher and after midterms I have a 3.4. Im just sick of school. Im sick of the administration telling me that the kid who takes honor classes and is involved in stupid clubs is going to get in to college before me. So what? I don’t like that. Im 16 and I work. I work for my parents and more or less have a manager type position. I cant stand the kids who play sports at my school their way too full of themselves. and when a college looks at my application wouldn’t they want to see a kid who can manage a business, or a kid who played football and sat on the sidelines have the season. I want to get into a decent school, no harvard or MIT. I live in Colorado and either want to go to Denver University, Colorado University Boulder, or Metro Denver. So do I really need to pull a 3.8 GPA score perfect on my ACT and SAT and do a bunch of clubs and hate high school. Or can I enjoy life get in the 3.0 range and do ok on my ACT and SAT. I just need some insight and advice here.

Well, let me start by giving you the CU Boulder info:
http://www.colorado.edu/prospective/fres hman/admission/criteria.html

You will see, at the bottom of the page, the middle 50% range for various schools within CU. You will see that none of them go down to 3.0. Does that mean you aren’t going to get in if you get a 3.0? No. It means you are much less likely to get in with a 3.0. You should shoot for the middle of those ranges if you want a reasonable chance of getting into CU.

I think you will find DU similar and Metro a bit less. If Metro is your goal, then you can probably get your 3.0. But if you want options (and you want to stay out of Greeley), then you apply yourself more.

As far working versus the other activities, I don’t think it matters all that much. If the question is ‘football vs working’, I think you will find them to be very much the same in the eyes of the admissions officers. However, the benefit of other activities is that you can get involved in more than just one thing. Those who work usually only work.

If you are sick of the administration telling you that kids who take honors classes are going to get into college before you, then you need to do a reality check. Of course they do. Obviously someone who takes honors classes is going to do better in admissions than someone who doesn’t. And the reason is that college is difficult. Your college classes will be a lot harder than those honors classes and a heck of lot harder than your non-honors classes. No college wants to admit people who are not going to graduate. If you aren’t willing to apply yourself in high school, then what are the chances that you are going to suddenly change and apply your self in college, once things get harder? You demonstrate your passion for education by the classes you take and the grades you get. And college requires a lot of passion for education to complete. So of course colleges are going to pick applicants who take difficult classes and make an effort over those who don’t.

To me, it sounds like you don’t really value education. And that is a attitude that will do you no service in admissions nor once you get to college. College is not for everyone, and that is fine. The world needs store managers. Perhaps that is what is right for you. But if you actually want to get an education, you need to start by evaluating your priorities. It sounds like you can excel if you apply yourself. But you need to apply yourself. And that will be true now, it will be true in college, and it will be true once you graduate from college and find a job. I wish you the best of luck in all of this.

You have received some good advise I hope that you do not express or show the attitudes that you have here on either an essay or an interview./

I don’t have the time to give links, there are many. You can just google any of the names and get the full story. All of these are 100% factual. Coincidences?? You decide.
I don’t think "conspiracy theory" applies to these 47 dead people. Suppose 47 of your associates and potential witnesse’s died all of a sudden, most with single gunshots to the head, would they investigate you? Yes they would, but not the Clintons. What’s wrong here?

That is pretty scary…..I did google some….just scary…

I think that I will vote for her….because i want to live….

I wonder why this info isn’t mainstream……

Unresolved is such a misleading word. These are all unjustified accusations levelled by partisan Republicans. Not one has been proven to hold a single grain of truth.

Given all the years of Republican majorities in every branch of government, White House, Senate, House, Supreme Court and Federal Prosecutor’s Office, and given all the power and authority that gave every investigation, not one indictment was issued, let alone a conviction. Why would that be?

Could it be that these accusations are so much Bush league bovine excrement?

Why would anybody believe a word from Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity? What kind of fool allows cheap gutter insinuations to determine their vote? What kind of person perpetuates them?

Shame on you. So much time spent on lies, when you could actually be doing something honest and useful.

Although my decision to not for vote her has already been made based on her stand on some issues, her inflation of her experience, and her childish and undermining political campaigning. She hasn’t shown that she can even manage her own campaign or campaign money effectively, to me this doesn’t indicate that she has the ability to run the country. (2nd link below has information on her campaign struggles)

The above issues and links included in the question are certainly concerning accusations that I would research more if I was undecided or considering voting for her.

Before you jump me on the experience point you may want to check out Meet the Press from yesterday (link below), and I will take a look and see if I can find the links to articles I have that discount her inflated roles she has claimed in the peace in Northern Ireland and other areas that she has used as experience evidence from her years as First Lady.

EDIT: Found the link regarding Northern Ireland, see it listed in Sources

What’s the big deal? It’s a cruel world out there, and we all have to survive, even the sociopaths. (I would vote for Hillary before Obama, by the way. With her, there are no surprises. We know her so well in this country that she cannot disappoint us, only continue to amaze and shock. But we have another option, thank God.)

$8000 First time home buyer tax credit.?

October 29th, 2009  Tagged

I will be closing on a 1st time home purchase on 4/30/09. Am I able to file a 2008 extension and claim the $8,000 first time home buyer credit on my 2008 1040 after I close on the purchase?

You can file your tax return prior to 4/15/09 and follow that with an amendment to claim the FTHB credit.

Mathew | Mar 24, 2009

You don’t need to file an extension. Just file your 2008 return on time without it, and then file a simple amendment after you close.
Bob F | Mar 24, 2009

YEP. Can file now and amend later, or just file an extension and file after closing.

Congratulations on your new home!!

Put ALL or most of the money onto your loan as additional principal payments. During your first 5-10 years you are paying interest and very little for building equity. Making extra payments of principal will GREATLY decrease the amount of interest you pay over the life of the loan and even shorten repayment period.

Can you make good french toast using wheat bread?

October 28th, 2009  Tagged

I’m really craving french toast right now, but the only bread I have in my house right now is wheat bread. Would the french toast still taste good, or should I not even bother?

Do it all the time. I actually like it better. If you are feeling adventurous, use a little peanut butter instead of butter. Its awesome.

Beagle | May 25, 2007

I eat french toast with wheat bread and I think it tastes fine.
Redcandy | May 25, 2007

yes fry it up in a thin light olive oil till crusty on both sides and serve same as any bread just healthier
fantasy_angel120 | May 25, 2007

You can make it with any type of bread. Wheat works well, has better nutrition and is higher in fiber. Go forth and eat wheat and eat well.
Chef TJ Mot | May 25, 2007

Personally, I ONLY make french toast with wheat bread. It already has a naturally sweet flavor. It’s really so much better tasting than white bread, which is boring! Give it a try. You may never go back to white bread again!
Sweet Polly | May 25, 2007

You can make French Toast with whatever bread you have at hand.
